Columbus Day
In 1492, Christopher Columbus set out to find a shorter trade route to Asia, and instead landed in what is known today as the Bahamas. His discovery paved the way for Spanish and European colonization throughout the Americas. The United States, Spain, and many Latin America countries observe Columbus Day on October 12th to commemorate Columbus' arrival in the Americas.

Use this lesson from our World History course to educate your students on what is known as the Age of Exploration, when Columbus and other explorers set out to gain wealth through trade at sea.
