Dr. Daniel P. King is on his fifth year as superintendent of the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District, and his 35th year in education. Prior to this position, Dr. King served as Superintendent of Schools at Hidalgo ISD for eight years. It was at Hidalgo ISD where he started his career in 1977 as a teacher/coach. He then went over to Mission CISD where he was promoted as an Assistant Principal and Elementary School Principal in the early 80s. In 1988 he returned to Hidalgo High School as Principal. He was later named Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Instruction, then Associate Superintendent, and was named Superintendent in 1999.
In the last three years, PSJA ISD has become a regional leader in connecting high school students to college with over 1,500 students participating in dual college credit courses during the 2009-2010 school year. PSJA ISD's T-STEM Early College High School was rated Exemplary by the State of Texas in leading the way in transforming PSJA ISD into an Early College School District. With area partners such as South Texas College and The University of Texas-Pan American, PSJA can provide its students with a diverse class selection for dual enrollment opportunities.
